A Christmas Parable

Back in the 1980's, I used to enjoy listening to Paul Harvey on the radio. His clear distinctive voice was like a solid oak two-by-four... reliable, precise and easy to listen to. His radio program, "The Rest of the Story," in which he related little-known true stories involving real people, was captivating to me. I would always smile at the end when he concluded the broadcast with a variation on the tag line, "And now you know... the rest of the story."

I can't remember exactly when I first heard "The Man and the Birds," but it had quite an impact on me. (A tribute to the power of story-- and History.) It has stayed with me for over 30 years and I would often recall it fondly. Sitting here in the Colorado Rockies enjoying the delights of the season and reflecting on the greatest gift ever given mankind, I thought what better time of year to share Mr. Harvey's classic broadcast than on Christmas Eve. Many of you who are 50 or older may remember this "story." I hope it rekindles in you that nostalgic sense of awe and wonder we should all experience at this time of year.

For those of you unfamiliar with this radio-story, I hope you will take 6 minutes to listen to Paul Harvey's wonderful parable. Click on the button below to hear it.
